Prospects and Challenges of New Materials in the Field of Slings and Lifting Gear
2025-12-05
Breakthroughs in the performance of lifting equipment products largely depend on the application of new materials. Currently, the industry is closely monitoring and exploring the potential applications of various new materials. For example, slings made from high-modulus polyethylene fibers boast a high specific strength and exhibit excellent resistance to abrasion, seawater, and ultraviolet radiation, making them well-suited for harsh environments such as offshore engineering. In the realm of metal lifting devices, the use of high-strength, lightweight alloys helps reduce self-weight while maintaining load-bearing capacity, thereby facilitating easier handling. However, the adoption of new materials also presents challenges, including higher costs, specialized manufacturing processes, a need for more accumulated data on long-term durability, and the development of standardized, widely recognized inspection and scrapping criteria tailored to these materials. The research and application of new materials represent one of the key technological pathways for driving the lifting equipment industry toward higher performance and longer service life.
